Identify leaders who drive organizational performance.
Understanding preference and motivation for leadership is critical to attaining the right fit between your people and the roles that they do.
To help individuals and organizations identify the best fit for critical roles, IBM offers powerful, online self-report questionnaires to measure the personality dimensions that are correlated with leadership performance at work and the values that underpin them – helping ensure you have the right leaders in the right positions to drive high performance in your organization.
Our approach to leadership is a blend of both nature and nurture. Nature includes your preferences and motivations. Our Leadership Preference Questionnaires will help you understand your natural style so that you can adopt it and use it to thrive in your organizational environment.
The IBM Kenexa Leadership Orientation Questionnaire (LOQ) is based on the well recognized and validated Big Five model of personality, which consists of extroversion, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness and neuroticism. Our questionnaire measures 28 dimensions that have been positively correlated with leadership performance at work. The foundation of the LOQ was our three-year research study with London Business School and a number of major blue-chip companies.
Each individual’s preference toward leadership is an important factor in identifying whether he or she will make a talented leader in the future. By measuring the specific thinking, social, power, achievement, emotional and mastery orientations, we can pinpoint inclination toward leadership and reinforce how different preferences can contribute to the organization as a whole.
Our research has identified a number of leadership orientations that naturally group together to form four distinct leadership styles, as seen in Diagram 1. Each style is effective in its own way – recognizing your own preferred style can enhance your overall impact as a leader.
Core motivations are informed by values, beliefs and aspirations. If we understand what key values and motivations are in relation to the choices we make about our career, we can equip ourselves with what we truly value and how we really see ourselves. Our High Performance Motivation Questionnaire Assessment (HPMQ) is an online self-report questionnaire that assesses an individual’s underpinning motivations.
The participant is sent online links to complete the LOQ and HPMQ questionnaires. With 189 questions, the LOQ takes approximately 45 minutes to complete, while the HPMQ has 55 questions and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Once the questionnaires have been submitted, the participant receives a feedback report that breaks down his or her specific preferences, motivations and leadership style. Each questionnaire can be completed separately, but combining the two questionnaires provides a fuller personal understanding for the participant. The participant can also request a one-hour feedback session with one of our experienced consultants to further understand the results of his or her report.
Our Leadership Preference Questionnaire is highly configurable, easily customizable and has robust multilingual support. The system can be administered by clients or managed by the IBM team to launch candidates, extract data or pull feedback reports.
