Back to work tomorrow after the holiday break. Have you got the January blues?

The festive period has passed and with many returning to work for January 2014 feeling the post-holiday gloom. Remember you are not alone; everybody gets the back-to-work blues. You just need to read this and get motivated again.

Below are 10 ways to beat the January blues and have a great start to 2014.

    1. Make a resolution or set yourself some goals-This is a great way to keep you motivated til you get back into the swing of things

    2. Exercise more often-If you keep your body fit your mind will equally be fit after that post work out buzz

    3. Watch what you eat and drink- Certain foods have the vitamins and minerals to give you more energy

    4. Sleeping hours- Try and get 7-8 hours sleep to make sure your body is well rested so you are alert throughout the day

    5. Take your lunch break- you may come back to a large workload since you have been on holiday and the pressure of completing budgets and presentations for the upcoming year is always quite daunting but you need that daily break in the work day.

    6. Pick up a new hobby- trying something new is always exciting, maybe learn a new language or try a new sport

    7. De clutter your workspace-is your email inbox, desk, cupboards and office organised? Make sure this is the first thing you do when you resume work so you can start afresh.

    8. Socialise with your family and friends- psychological wellbeing and social networks is important so spend time with the people that make you feel good

    9. Remember to smile or better yet laugh- Laughing can help decrease your stress levels and helps lift your mood, so tell jokes at work, share funny videos and don’t be too serious

    10. Do you dislike your job and need to make a change- We are not talking about the Christmas and new years effect of being back at work after a relaxing period. If the answer is yes, then make a change and start the job hunt.

Best of luck. Get motivated and enjoy yourself!
